Preparing for an exam in one week is literally possible. All you need is effective study tips for exams and follow some simple steps to be completely ready. Let’s device a plan that can help us gain good marks with the least time devotion.
How to prepare for exams in one week
Heads spinning, eyes burning, hearts racing, spines tingling; now isn’t that what the last few days before an important exam feel like? Let’s face it, most of us don’t like to study the year round, and pay a ‘visit’ to our books only when it’s the last few days before final exams. We even intelligently divide our syllabus into reachable goals for each day of the last week or so, but fail to achieve those goals due to other ‘important stuff’ to do; like an emergency call from a friend, updating Facebook status, a potential sleep attack and what not?
There are actually some simple and clever ways in which you can motivate a better atmosphere for learning.
So basically when everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong, we find ourselves with merely a couple of days, and tons to study, and start dividing our book according to what’s most important and what we are going to leave! Even though it is said that nothing can happen overnight, there are actually some simple and clever ways in which you can motivate a better atmosphere for learning and end up getting surprisingly good marks. Go through the suggestions below, to study for exams in one week effectively –
  1. Boycott All Social Circuits: This is the time you give up all your phones and twitter and Facebook hangouts, so that you can actually concentrate on studies. Switch off your internet connection, put your phone on silent and let it be as far away from you as possible, at least till the time you are planning to bury your head in books! Research shows that most students cannot concentrate on their studies because of their messaging and phone calls, besides anything else.
  2. Divide The Syllabus: We know how you divide your syllabus for months together, but end up crushing your own deadlines. This time, make realistic goals and make it a point to achieve them, by hook or by crook! You may have to study in the late hours, miss a couple important television shows, might even risk being called a geek by your friends, but when you fare well in your exams, nothing else is going to matter!
  3. Eat-Sleep-Study-Repeat: No matter how important work is, food and sleep should never be compromised. The simple reason for the same is that when you don’t have enough energy in your body, you will not be able to concentrate. Eat nutritious, protein rich, low calorie food, so that you can stay fresh and active, charged and ready to achieve your goals on time. Sleeping on time and napping enough to stay fresh is also essential. There is no point cramming when your mind is asleep. You need proper food and rest in order to study well. Making up for the lost time, you need to concentrate only on studies, hence the eat-sleep-study routine! You follow it well for merely a week; you are going to get decent grades without a doubt.
  4. Intelligent Study: Studying intelligently is very important since you only have a week. Important definitions, one-liners, formulae, dates and events need to be noted down. It’s because when you are attempting the paper, your mind actually tends to give you a visual of what you have learnt, when you have important stuff highlighted and ready to use, it is going to come handy without a doubt. Sample papers and question papers from previous years are also a great help, because you tend to understand the pattern of the exam you are about to attempt.
  5. Discuss: If you can get over the euphoria of the sort of fun you may have in a group study and actually think about learning, you will realize that there is nothing better than that when you simply have a week left. T’s because when you have doubts, you can ask others, and when they have any you can help. This way, knowledge will be shared and well circulated, which will help you grasp and retain information better. Keeping in teacher’s contacts handy and asking them for a little extra help can work wonders too.
  6. Find Your Happy Hours: This is really important. You need to find out the time of the day when you can study your best and work maximum in that given time. Some people are good with morning hours, while some can only study in the night time. There are also people who can study all day long! You have to find out what time zone you fall in and make the most of that time; in these last few precious preparation days.
  7. Breathe A Little: No matter how bad your case and you decide to study it all, in just one week, you need to chill out a little too. This is so that your brain is not over-pressurized and you don’t black out right before the exam. Listen to your favorite music, indulge in comfort food once in a while or take workout breaks, so that your mind and body become re-energized and ready to face the exam properly. If and when headaches occur, avoid medicines; try simple remedies like a good oil massage or a hot cup of coffee, so that you can study to the best of your potential and score well in your exams.
Try these simple tips and be surprised by the difference it can make in your grades. All the best!
